Yin Yue was born in Shanghai, China. She studied Chinese Classical dance at the Shanghai Dance School from 1995 to 2001. After graduation, she studied contemporary modern dance in Shanghai Teacher's College and also worked with the Shanghai Student Dance Company. In 2006, Yin was ranked as on of the top ten dancers in the National Contemporary Dance Competition in China.
Yin Yue has worked with Deborah Jowitt, and Christopher Williams, as well as choreographed her own work. In 2006 and 2007, she collaborated with director Sean McPhillips as choreography in the short film "The Break Up" and "Cupcake".
